We (and by ‘we’ I mean my husband) were very busy beavers this weekend!! Alright, it wasn’t just my husband, I did help but he did most of the heavy lifting.
I was going to write about my teachery monday made it first but I am just too darn excited about this that I have to share!
In a previous blog post I shared this pin:
I was so inspired by it that I decided we should do this too! So I showed my hubby the picture and asked if he would help me build this (read “you build, I supervise”). My hubby works in construction so he had a trailer full of lumber already. We used that instead of using the palettes.
Here are the before pictures!
The during….
And drum roll please!!!!
After:
This is our little slice of heaven in our backyard. You’re jealous right?! I’m so lucky to be married to such a handy guy. He’s the best! We’ve pretty much been out there non stop since it was finished on Saturday night. And I was so excited about how it turned out that I just had to have people over for a BBQ, which brings me to my next Monday Made It!
This is a yummy black bean and corn salsa that is to die for! It’s so fresh tasting and perfect for summer time (although I will be making this all the time!). I could eat the whole batch myself and I am so thankful that there are leftovers because that will be my breakfast lunch tomorrow.
Here’s the recipe that I used, there are a bunch floating around the internet that I looked at for inspiration and then just did my own thing:
In a bowl mix together:
2 cans of black beans
1 can of peaches and cream corn
1 red bell pepper
1 can of diced tomatoes with Italian seasoning (I used low sodium)
5 green onions
1 red onion
1 bunch of cilantro (I go by taste because cilantro can over power if you’re not careful)
1.5 TBSP of minced garlic
Juice from 2 limes
You can also add avocado but mine weren’t ripe yet so I left them out and it was still awesome. My guests raved about it and asked for the recipe so they could make it for a BBQ they’re going to!
Make this salsa, you will not be disappointed!
Alright, on to my teachery Monday Made It…
I made these last night while watching True Blood:
This was my first time mod podging and it went pretty well. I was distracted a few times by some shirtless vampires but eventually I finished them. I’m really happy with how they turned out and I’m afraid I’m going to have to do this to all of my clothes pins in my classroom. The only problem is that I use about a million clothes pins over the course of the year for various things.
I’m not even 100% sure yet what I’m going to use these for. I was thinking my behaviour clip chart but maybe I can come up with a better use for them…or better yet, maybe you can! How are you using your fancied up clothes pins or how would you use mine?
And one last Monday Made It!
I finished 2 more Daily Math Word Problems Booklets. These are going to be great for morning math work for the kids to work on while everyone gets settled in. Problem solving in math (and other areas) is a big deal in my district right now. To pick up your own booklets just click on the image and it will take you to my store.
Phew, that was a lot of Monday Made It’s! I’m about ready for a nap now.
Catch you on the flip side!

Amazing! I would totally lead with that too! He deserves to have his work posted as a monday made it, too. Good job hubby guy!
The clothes pins…LOVE them! I am going to make some tomorrow, actually. should have thought to make them for MMI. Oh well. I think you could use them as a way to post student work/art. Find a way to attach them to the wall or on a string an hang kids art. It would be so cute! My friend had a string that dipped like bunting over her windows. Then she hung students work or art (whatever she wanted to display) from the pins. It was new bunting every week. Really cute!
Go enjoy your new fabulous porch!

I'm in awe of your deck! It looks so comfy. I think your clips would look cute on one of those "no name" boards I've been seeing all over Pinterest. Sara B

You will not be sorry (on both accounts) if you make it!

We have a big Labrador so he pretty much keeps most creatures away. We get bunnies now and then and the occasional groundhog that sneaks under the fence (but my dog scares them off). Our yard is fenced so it keeps anything larger out like coyotes.

I convinced mine! So there's hope!

Oh Amy, thanks for reminding me! I decided to do the clothes pins weeks ago and my original thought was to use them for artwork and then I totally forgot the reason I was making them! I need to write this down on my classroom decor notes pages for when I'm setting up my room…I have too many ideas rolling around in my noggin, some tend to fall out.
Second-grade-alicious says
ohhh another great idea!! Thank you! Now I definitely need to make more pins.

Your hubby made that in ONE DAY? Oh my goodness…
I'm way handier than my hubby so you can imagine how many DIY's get done around here.

I love love love your deck. Your cushions look great, too. What a beautiful place to snuggle up and read a book with a glass of wine. Ahhh!!! Bliss…. Love the clothes pins!! I usually hot glue mine to the top centre of a colourful construction paper and then put them up on my bulletin board. So, the construction paper stays up all year long while students' work get interchanged every so often. Easy peasy. 🙂 Your recipe sounds yummy. I might need to go grocery shopping in the near future and stock up on your ingredients. Thanks so much!

Love, love, love your backyard project. It looks so relaxing to sit out there and enjoy. I have a pretty handy hubby as well but getting him "motivated" to do those projects and "honey dos" can be tricky… Love your clothespins, too. Those are on my "School To Do" list as well. Thanks for sharing.
