Alright peeps, I think I’m in over my head with this crafting stuff. I have two Monday Made Its that are very lackluster.
I’ll show you what I mean and then if you would all be so kind as to give me your advice/help/opinions etc. I would be SO appreciative!
What I’m about to show you is not for the faint of heart…okay it’s not that bad but it’s really just, well….blah. That is the only word I can think of. It’s missing something but I don’t know what.
What I am trying to make is a board for my own kiddos to hang their art work on. I started with a piece of plywood and then I painted it white. See below:
It got off to an awful start. I painted the boards in my garage and then before going inside I got the brilliant idea to open the garage door just slightly so the fumes could escape and then I went inside. I went back out an hour later to do another coat of paint and found the plastic had blown on top of the wet paint. I’m not gonna lie, there were a few F-Bombs dropped (what??Like you don’t swear sometimes?).
Okay, so I fixed that and did another coat of paint and then a third coat later on.
While the paint was drying I mod podged some scrap book paper on to clothes pins. I don’t have a picture of just the clothes pins themselves but the picture below shows what I thought the final product was going to look like:
I thought it was going to look amazing but I think it just looks blah. It needs something more but I have no idea what. I was thinking it needs more red but I’m just not sure. So, this is where you come in! Please leave a comment below with your suggestions so I can fix up my Monday Made It! Nothing is glued on yet. I just cut the ribbon and placed it on the board with the clothes pins so I could see what my masterpiece was going to look like.
I’m really looking forward to reading your suggestions!
My second Monday Made It was inspired by Erica Bohrer’s picture of her bins on Instagram. I happened to buy the exact same bins as her on the same day that she posted her picture on Instagram and I knew right away that I wanted to do something similar.
Here are the bins before:
Here are mine…so far.
Now, in my classroom I only have 2 really long tables for students to sit at so there will be 3 bins per table. So because of that, I didn’t want to have “Table 1” etc. labels on the bins. I do like how they look just the way they are but I may add a label to them at some point.
FINALLY, I am also hosting my very first giveaway! I reached over 100 followers of My Store and I am now at over 225 followers on Bloglovin! I thought this was a great reason to celebrate and give something back to my lovely followers.
I’m going to leave you with this picture:
This is toilet paper!! I’m not even kidding. I found it at Walmart. Who uses this stuff?! I’m actually trying to figure out how I can use it in my classroom because I love the bright colours but it kind of creeps me out that this is toilet paper. Am I the only one that thinks this is odd?

That is some weird looking toilet paper! lol. It just took the other thoughts right out of my head after reading your post. What DO people use it for?
Anyway, I love the idea with the strip to hand student work. I have been trying to think of a way to display student work in my room too and I don't have a lot of wall space. I was thinking of using the space below the chalkboard (it's really long and I have two wall of them!). I think your strip looks cute! Once the student work is hanging up, you won't need much decoration there.
Congratulations on the giveaway!!

It is odd toilet paper {a little long for a typical roll}. I am your newest follower and also a second grade teacher. I am pretty new to this blogging world as well. I can't wait to read more of you post. If you get a chance I would love for you to come on over and check out my blog. Thanks for sharing!

Hi
I think that your boards turned out cute. F bombs?! Girl, come to my driveway during craft time. Trucker mouth here. I also forgot to open the door and also had plastic hit my paint. What is wrong with us?! I bet you could put either bright red ribbon it to spruce up the color, but right now it seems simple and classy and if you change themes, this will still work??
The toilet paper…hmmm that is so interesting… I'd say maybe it can be fun to toilet paper the room on St. Patty's day and say it was the leprechaun throwing out rainbows! 🙂

The color TP is very strange…but I kinda like it 🙂 I love the idea of having a board for the kids to hang their work on! Maybe you could add some red bows in between clothespin? Or you could write something like "Look what we did!" Or maybe add some stripes, polka dots, or chevron on the white part? 🙂 I love your table caddies too! I made those too 🙂

Pins look off-centered, that is all! Good luck!
Second-grade-alicious says
They probably are off-centered because I eye-balled it but they look really off because of the angle of the picture. Thankfully they aren't glued down yet and I will be measuring for the final product!
Second-grade-alicious says
Oh I love the red bows idea!! That might be just what it needs!

HAHA A girl after my own heart! I too have a trucker mouth, not sure how I manage to control it at school but I do!

First – the colored toilet paper is super weird! Although it could be fun for that bridal shower game where you make a dress out of toilet paper…
As for your art work boards, some red polka dots might spruce it up and be cute (though I'm a sucker for polka dots…)
Good luck!

So THAT'S where the Kardashians buy their black toilet paper! (on their dumb show, Kim mentioned that her mom uses black toilet paper in the house. I had no idea where you could even get that. Now I know…)
Re: your cute craft idea. Like I tell my students—less is more. I think it looks great. Add some bows to those clips and the work posted will jazz it up. : )

Love the name of your blog BTW!

That toilet paper is weird- I would worry that they dye would come off… Eww!! I've seen lawns T.P'd for high school sports- maybe people could buy their team colors? 🙂

I'd be afraid I'd end up with a dyed butt if I used this toilet paper! LOL. As for your board, I like the idea someone mentioned above to add bows and polka dots. I agree it does need a little something! That would really spruce it up! I made the same caddies too, but used colored ribbon.

I love what you did with the baskets. I've been waiting to get to Hobby Lobby to get ribbon for my caddies!

Definitely weird TP.
For your board you mentioned that you wanted to add more red. You could use a second ribbon that is either the same size and laid as a second row or a slightly wider red ribbon and put the black one on top of it.
Garden Full of Knowledge says
Hmmmm…..colored toilet papers? Nah, I'll pass! However, I can see them being used in art class; like making flowers. Use about 6 to 8 squares (the more you use, the fuller the flower will be), place on top of each other and fold it in an accordian fold. Then, scrunch the middle and tie it with a string. Pull the outer edges towards the center and see the flower take shape. As for the extra words being used…I can totally relate…so, you go girl! Thanks for hosting a great giveaway and congrats!

See – That is what Kim said about Kris' TP, that it leaves black stuff all over her bum. Oh well, I will stick with my boring white stuff.
I agree with some type of dots, I am partial to chevron…or bows, just something to break up the white.
I am your newest follower (I teach second, too!)

It made me smile that you said lots of bad words. It's so comforting to know there are other teachers out there in the world just like me! LOL! I like the display strip the way it is. I don't think it looks boring at all. I think once the art work is up, that is what will be most important. Still can't get over the Toilet Paper. Your OMG is on point!

Thanks for the suggestion!

HAHA I could TP the neighbourhood! It sure would make it bright and colourful!
Growing Gracefully in Third Grade says
I agree with Chris…I think a small red ribbon as a second "level" of ribbon alongside the black and some cute bows in the corners would be adorable! 🙂

That toilet paper is so funny! I love your polka dot bins. So cute! 🙂

I think you should add signs to your caddies that are similar to the table signs. Just have the signs say things like "Keep it clean" or Remember to share".
