Once again I am late to the game…I have just recently started using QR codes with my students. WOW, it’s so much easier to create a QR code for them to access a website rather than trying to get 20 first and second graders to type it in on their own (or in reality I end up typing it in for them).
Sooooo much easier to use a QR code!
If you don’t know what a QR code is here is a pic:
In order to use QR codes you need a mobile device like an ipad, ipod, or similar android or Blackberry device that has a QR code scanner/reader app (The app I use is called QR Reader, it’s free and also has a QR generator with it).
The other day I created a chat room for my class using the website Today’s Meet. I made a QR code for them to scan that would take them right to the chat room. We have class meetings once a week so I thought this would be a neat way to have our class meeting. This was their first time using a chat room like this so our meeting was really more about the kids just getting used to how a chat room works. Here’s a screen shot of our “conversation”. I had asked them what they did for Earth Day….

I love how you use it as a quick link to a website. It must really cut down on time for the kids to type it all in.
I'm going to have to steal that idea from you.

Oh it did…I don't know what grade you teach but especially in the primary grades it saves a lot of time.
